Hot Section The PT6 Hot Section consists of the compressor turbine disc, compressor turbine blades, vane ring, small exit duct, shroud housing, compressor turbine shrouds, and large exit duct and combustion liner. The compressor turbine and other hot section components are exposed to the highest temperatures in the engine.
Careful engine operation and maintenance can prolong the life and reduce the cost of hot section repairs. One of the most effective ways to increase the life of the PT6 hot section is to keep engine starting temperatures as low as possible and this can be accomplished by using an external power source to power the engine electric starter. Other ways to increase hot section life is the use of lower than maximum cruise and take off temperatures and the observance of maximum ground idle temperatures.
The maintenance items that have the largest impact on the life of the hot section and the hot section operating cost per hour are fuel nozzle service, compressor and turbine blade wash, setting and maintaining proper turbine tip clearance, borescope inspections and engine trend monitoring ...more about PT6 hot section
